What do you find most enjoyable about biochem? And any advice for an aspiring biochemist like me? :D
Oh man where do I start? Biochemistry is just plain awesome. First of all, you basically learn how the body works on a molecular scale. It never stops to amaze me how many different processes are going on in our body, ranging from converting sugar to energy, to breathing, and all the way to how the immune system recognizes infections.
Whats even better is that you can do so much with it. You can design drugs (which is what I want to do), engineer bacteria to produce biofuels, design new organic compounds, etc. Its like all the cool parts of biology and chemistry got together while leaving all the boring and annoying stuff behind (physical chem (ugh), ecology (ew), etc). Sorry if I just offended a bunch of ecologists and physical chemists :P.
My best advice is start out doing research in a lab as soon as possible when you get to college that way you can figure out what you want to do, plus its pretty fun!
